Solitary Gardens shares their new project in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Solitary Gardens, led by artist Jackie Sumell, hosts a tree-planting ceremony to unveil their first garden in the Lower Ninth Ward. The project aims to raise awareness of the problems of America’s prison system by creating six-by-nine-foot gardens that mimic the scale of a solitary-confinement cell. For more information on the project, visit Solitary Gardens’ website. RSVP for the event on Facebook.

And on the Art Review archive, read Lydia Y. Nichols’ take on another project by Sumell, which was on view at UNO St. Claude Gallery last year.
