“Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen” opens March 16, 2017, at the Contemporary Arts Center (900 Camp Street) in New Orleans.

The Contemporary Arts Center hosts a reception to open two new exhibitions: “Senga Nengudi: Improvisational Gestures” and “Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen.” Nengudi’s sculptures and performances from the 1970s helped spur the development of conceptual art in Los Angeles. In Vicuña’s first major solo exhibition in the United States, the artist’s work across disciplines is contextualized by the economic and environmental precarity of today’s world.

At 6:30 pm, Nengudi speaks with artist Maren Hassinger and Joan Mitchell Center director Gia Hamilton. At 7:30 pm, poet and activist Rodrigo Toscano reads a special piece in response to Vicuña’s exhibition.

Regular museum admission applies. For more information, visit the CAC’s website.
