The Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University screens director Ousmane Sembène’s classic movie alongside a short film by artist Mickalene Thomas.

In conjunction with Mickalene Thomas’ “Waiting on a Prime-Time Star,” the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University hosts a screening of director Ousmane Sembène’s Black Girl (1966), one of the first African films to receive widespread international acclaim. Afterward, the museum presents Thomas’ Happy Birthday to a Beautiful Woman (2012), the artist’s directorial debut.
