The Newcomb Art Museum screens director Melvin Van Peebles’ classic film, which paved the way for Blaxploitation as a genre.

In conjunction with Mickalene Thomas’ “Waiting on a Prime-Time Star,” the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University hosts a screening of director Melvin Van Peebles’ Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song (1971). The film was a precursor to the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s and features a soundtrack by Earth, Wind & Fire.

This event is free and open to the public. The screening takes place in the Freeman Auditorium in Tulane’s Woldenberg Art Center. For more information, visit the museum’s website.
