Deltaworkers screens a controversial documentary by artist Renzo Martens that explores exploitation, commerce, and neocolonialism.
Deltaworkers presents a screening of Dutch artist Renzo Martens’ Episode III: Enjoy Poverty (2008) at the Joan Mitchell Center. The controversial film records Martens’ time working with Congolese photographers to disrupt the exploitative circulation of media. In Enjoy Poverty, Martens attempts to create a system where locals can produce and benefit financially from the images of impoverished communities—which generate more revenue than traditional exports such as gold, diamonds, and cocoa. A panel discussion featuring Garrett Bradley, Brian Harrison Nelson, Brandan “Bmike” Odums, and Kristina Kay Robinson follows the screening.
