The Contemporary Arts Center screens a film, which includes an interview with the renowned cultural critic and activist bell hooks, followed by a conversation with artist Rashaad Newsome and writer Darnell L. Moore.
In conjunction with Mélange, a new performance and presentation of works by Rashaad Newsome, the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) screens director Sut Jhally’s bell hooks: Cultural Criticism & Transformation (1997). The film contains an interview with hooks, who explains the importance of critically examining popular culture. Following the screening, Newsome and writer Darnell L. Moore discuss the intersection of race, capitalism, and gender.
