A free screening and discussion as part of the NOLA Japanese Cinema Series.
The New Orleans Japanese Cinema Series, a monthly event hosted by the Japan Society of New Orleans and Charitable Film Network with support from "Monday Movie Night at Cafe Istanbul," presents Kasamayaki .
Shaken by the Japanese earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disasters of 2011, a young woman returns to Kasama to make sense of her family’s troubled past. Meditative moments at the pottery wheel punctuated by tense conversations, sudden earthquakes, and radiation level readings, Kasamayaki exposes the bittersweet process of coming to terms with an imperfect life and the healing power of creativity. There will be a short discussion with the filmmaker, Yuki Kokubo, following the screening.
This event is free and open to the public.
