Shotgun Cinema presents a screening of one of the most celebrated dance films of all time.
In collaboration with Dancing Grounds and the Marigny Opera Ballet, Shotgun Cinema will present a screening of The Red Shoes (1948) on Friday, June 19 at 9pm.
Rising ballet star Victoria Page (Moira Shearer) is torn between fully realizing her dance career and settling into a life of domestic bliss. With gorgeous choreography and stunning use of Technicolor, this Oscar-winning film from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger examines the cutthroat ballet world, as well as oppressive patriarchal expectations. Inspiring contemporary ballet films such as The Black Swan (2010), The Red Shoes is the quintessential backstage drama.
Tickets are $7 for the general public and $5 with a student ID.
