On Tuesday, February 25, beginning at 7 pm, Xavier University will host the New Orleans Black Mardi Gras Traditions Extravaganza. Seminar participants include the TBC Brass Band, documentarian Royce Osborn, Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, Zulu Club Historian Clarence Becknell, and Darryl Montana, Jr. of the Yellow Pochahontas Mardi Gras Indian group.  And, among other Xavier faculty members, Kim Marie Vaz, Associate Dean of the university and author of the book The Baby Dolls: Breaking the Race and Gender Barriers of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Tradition, will also be on hand to discuss her experiences masking with the Baby Dolls. The event will be moderated by Dr. Michael White.
