The Joan Mitchell Center (JMC) will host presentations by its four current Artists-in-Residence Wednesday, June 12, at 6 pm at the Indigo Building (2285 Bayou Rd). Miranda Lash, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the New Orleans Museum of Art, will moderate the short lectures by residents Kaili Chun (Honoloulu, HI), John Powers (Birmingham, AL), Raymond Saá (Maplewood, NJ), and Samantha Wall (Portland, OR), as well as presentations by three guest artists, Bruce Davenport, Jr. (New Orleans, LA), Rashaad Newsome (New York, NY), and Stephen Slappe (Portland, OR). As a part of its 2013 Pilot Artist-in-Residence program, JMC invited 24 artists to participate in the inaugural residency. The artists were chosen from the pool of recipients from the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant Program and MFA Grant Program.
This event is free and open to the public.
