The Louisiana State Museum will host a discussion by Art Shiver and Tom Whitehead, co-authors of Clementine Hunter: Her Life and Art (LSU Press), on Thursday, May 9, at 6 pm at the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade Ave) as part of the Louisiana's State Museum's Second Thursdays lecture series. From the 1930s until several days before her death at 101 years old, Clementine Hunter (1887-1988) painted thousands of scenes of plantation life in Louisiana's Cane River region. Shiver and Whitehead drew from archival research, interviews, and a close relationship with the artist to produce this first comprehensive biography about this self-taught painter who attracted the attention of the world.
This event is free and open to the public.
