They Call Me Baby Doll: A Mardi Gras Tradition

Friends of the Cabildo will celebrate the opening of the Louisiana State Museum's new exhibition "They Call Me Baby Doll: A Mardi Gras Tradition," on Friday, January 18 with a book signing, moderated panel, and exhibition reception beginning at 6 pm. The exhibition will explore the history of the Baby Dolls, a group of black women Mardi Gras maskers that began circa 1912 who humorously critiqued pressing gender and race issues, and the continuing tradition today.

Admission to the exhibition, panel, and book signing are free and open to the public.
