As the NCAA Final Four comes to New Orleans, local legend Bob Tannen will be exhibiting some of his basketball drawings at L’entrepot gallery. Previously discussed by Nick Stillman here, Tannen’s ball drawings consider the history of sporting events and the idea of the ball—the physicality and nuances of a sphere.
Tannen describes his interest by noting, "I wanted to explore the abstract and ideal sense of the ball and ball games and why they are so important. I further focused attention on the basketball in particular as a special object distinct from other game balls in material, size and function. The game of basketball would be very different if it was played with a football or golf ball. ”
“Basketball Portraits” will be on view from March 30 to April 3 at L’entrepot (527 Julia Street) with an opening reception on Friday, March 30 at 5 pm.
