Making Books Symposium

A conversation about the creative process of making photography books with Thomas Roma, photographer; Susan Kismaric, curator of "Pictures for Books;" and Phillip Lopate, author and collaborator with Roma for the monograph On Three Pillars: Torah, Worship, and the Practice of Loving Kindness, The Synagogues of Brooklyn. Moderated by Stephen Hilger, Assistant Professor of Photography, Newcomb Art Department, the discussion will trace Roma's influences in photography, his relationship with books, and the role of collaboration in his work.

The conversation, which begins at 3:30 pm, will be immediately followed by a public reception at 5 pm celebrating the opening of the gallery's three photography exhibitions. Guests can enjoy food, drink, and jazz selections performed by students from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) until 7 pm.

A fully illustrated exhibition catalogue for Pictures for Books with an essay by Susan Kismaric accompanies the exhibition and is available for sale at the Newcomb Art Gallery along with select monographs by Thomas Roma. Roma will be signing his books during the exhibition events on September 14 and 15.

**Admission: Free and open to the public.
