Billboard Art Project is an organization that acquires digital billboards normally used for advertising and repurposes them as roadside art galleries. In addition to providing artists with a venue to display their art, the project results in free art shows for the public. Previous shows have been held in Richmond, VA; Nashville, TN; Savannah, GA; Duluth, MN; Chicago, IL; and Reading, PA. After New Orleans, the project will continue its 2011 schedule in Baton Rouge, LA and San Bernardino, CA.
The schedule for the New Orleans Billboard Art Project will be divided into four weeks, with a selection of artists appearing each week. Each week will feature new artists, whose work will be shown in a rotation Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday all participants' work will be shown in a weekend rotation.
Work is available for viewing 24/7 in New Orleans until Friday, November 18 at 11:59 pm when traveling eastbound on the Pontchartrain Expressway (just after S. Claiborne Ave).
